Nursing – New and Current Student Information

Welcome to the UniSQ Bachelor of Nursing program!

We have compiled important information to help you succeed in your studies. By completing these tasks promptly, you will ensure a smooth transition to university life and be fully prepared for your upcoming clinical placements.

If you are already a student, this information can assist you in keeping your mandatory documents up to date and in getting mask fit tested.

Enrol in your units!!

Once you have completed steps 1 and 2 via the link above (Step 3), you are ready to enrol.

As a GUC student, you will be enrolling in online courses.

  • Always select ‘Toowoomba’ and then selectGeraldton Universities Centre’.
  • If Geraldton Universities Centre does not appear, select ‘online’ or ‘external’.

DO NOT register for classes.  All of your classes are held at the GUC and your GUC classes timetable can be found here: https://guc.edu.au/timetables/

Vaccine Preventable Diseases Form (VPD)

Please familiarise yourself with this form.  Please note that you must commence your Serology testing for Hepatitis B immediately to be fully compliant before your first placement.  Please start this process before orientation. 

This form will be discussed in detail during the Nursing Orientation. 

Please complete your name, student number, and date at the bottom of each page.

Textbooks and Scrubs

To order textbooks and your scrubs (top only) go to:

Follow these steps:

  1. Search by:’ University’ – click on the ‘University of Southern Queensland tile
  2. Click on, ‘subjects’, ‘Trimester 1’ and enter the course code for each course you have enrolled in.

For example, enter each course code you have enrolled in for Trimester 1.

NDIS Clearance (Worker Screening Check)

NDIS Clearance (Worker Screening Check) – You will need one of these (we will give you the relevant employer code at Orientation). Apply via the online portal at DoTDirect https://www.transport.wa.gov.au/dotdirect/faqs/ndis-worker-screening-checks

WA Police Clearance Certificate

Please note, that you must only complete the form at this link:
 https://www.police.wa.gov.au/Police-Direct/National-Police-Certificates

Police Clearances from other sites are NOT accepted in WA. WACHS require your Police Clearance to be renewed EVERY TWELVE MONTHS.

WA Department of Health – Criminal Screening Card

Once you have received your WA Police Clearance Certificate, please do the following:

  • Scan a certified copy to hss.crs@health.wa.gov.au
    Use your surname_NPC as the file name.
  • WA Department of Health will email you an electronic copy of your CRS Card, and provide a hard copy via mail.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Course

USI (Unique Student Identifier)

You will need to provide your USI number at Orientation.

If you don’t have a USI Number please apply here https://www.usi.gov.au/

Mask Fit Testing

GUC has a supply of two masks used by WACHS: the 3M1870+ and the Trident (RTCFFP2).

You can purchase these masks from reception for $6.00 for both.

After purchasing, you can take the masks to one of the two fit testers in town—Panaceum or Midwest Aeromedical.

Be sure to check their pricing before scheduling a test.
